4000 cfm sounds pretty high for one fan. Never seen one single that's that high..... You can get 2200 2400 cfm pullers that will definitely get the job done. Thing is dino lives in like Saudi Arabia. I have faith that if his set up cools it there it will work here. Anything in the 2000cfm range with good shrouding will do the job if the rest of your cooling system is in order. Oh I see that 4000 is both fans combined nor just the e fan... if you get two new e fans you'll have no.problem!!

I still think that dinky radiator is the issue, not the fans......but experimenting with fans is easier than experimenting with rads. On our other vehicles, including water cooled motorcycles, if I multiply height X width of the rad core and divide that number by the motor CID, I get 2+ square inches rad surface area per motor CI. With the XJ, u get 1.23 square inches rad surface area per CI.
That very reason alone is why every component in the XJ cooling system absolutely must be in top notch condition, especially this time of year.
Man Law - no rusty, lumpy, cruddy looking stuff in the radiator, raise the hood once a week and check things out.

Sorry to jack this thread... but do you guys think this is a good upgrade? I mean that read about doing it seemed convincing but i want to know if anybody on here has done it with that much satisfaction???..

I dunno what mech fan they tested, but I can tell you mine with 4 different fan clutches pulls less than I think it should, period. I have had lots of elec fan setups on rangers/ B2's and I garuntee a black magic fan pulls more than the stock mech with a clutch.

Thought this was a good write up and a easy way to do the temp sensor without messing around with the CPU.

These are what I am going to run! I took my Mech fan off and put another condensor fan on and sitting at stop lights it only gets to about 215 but I want to up grade!!

What I've been curious about, with regard to efans, is any benefit of a rheostat?.....set the "fan on" at low speed (minimum load/shock to the motor/alternator), then dial the rheostat up when/as needed, bringing the fan speed up. Still gotta keep an eye on the temp gauge though.

Yep, installed several Flex-A-Lite variable speed fan controllers (60% to 100% fan speed) and they work well. The rheostat was just a thought and wonder how it work with that triple fan set up. Even at 60% start-up, u can definitely hear/see the load on the motor/electrical system with big amp fan(s).
