Default DrvSide Motor Mount Alignment issue, prying Engine?

Hi, The XJ 4.0 motor mount is a very simple affair and I got the old one out fairly easy. It was totally shot (180k tough miles) as in 1" flopping in 1st gear, barely able to limp to parts store then home, tremendous shudder.

I did get some Prothane Urethane motors and they will ast forever.

Getting the new in tough, all alignment issues. At this point have inner bolt that goes down snug, the big cross bolt tip of front end in. AND the outer bolt hole in mount is quite forward can only see 1/16" of frame hole it is supposed to mate to. So the engine is forward about 1/2" and twisted to right side. The Pass side is still old rubber mount but has not fallen apart like Drv side and is in place.

I would have been done 2 hours ago if it just lined up, can not figure out how to get leverage to pry the engine back so can drop the outer bolt down into hole.

have 4" C clamp but can not find spot to clamp to to pull engine back.

Anyone deal with this issue have a solution?

Not sure what brand you went with but lots of us that went with ironman 4x4 mounts had to shave some of the firewall side of the bushing down for the proper clearance to get it lined up. You may have a similar issue.

After a quick search of "prothane jeep xj mounts" via google
I read a similar issue, if I were you id search on " insert brand here prothane jeep xj motor mount fitment" and see what pops up.

Hi,

The problem is not the mount. It is in the "ears" of engine block. It is the alignment of the engine forward about 1/2" to frame of jeep where mount mounts.

Well after 2 hours and posting here came up with answer almost as soon as posted. Put a come-along from trans cross member to the mounting bracket and with maybe 800 pulling pounds force, the holes aligned for outer bracket bolt.

Now my problem is the bolt screwed down about three turns easy and is now taking maybe 80-90 torgue to proceed. Have pulled out twice, put oil on it, can not figure out why, same bolt I took out???

Oh well one problem to another.

OK got that bolt in, last one is to get the big through bushing bolt thru both sides. have it through bushing but engine was left 1/2"

Then started engine (it is held by bolt and one ear/) that helped.

Now 3/16" to go to get bolt thru back ear. engine so too far towrds pass side.

anyone else have these problems?

Got it.

Trick was to pull engine towards Drv side with transmission web to rear of bottom control arm via comealong, about 700 lbs.

Then start engine to get it wiggle that way.

Then used breaker bar to giggle towards Drv side some more.

Then pulled the through bolt out because it rotated pretty easy, so did not think would lose the first side match.

Then used angle grinder in vise on bolt to bring bolt to point and feathered in the threads grinding off first three.

Then cooled it off in cold water to make bolt smaller.

Then hammered it in throught both sides.

3 bolts took 6-7 hours to get back in, whew am done, not going to fool with Pass side mount untill it goes out.
