Unhappy Driver side carpet is getting wet when theres rain. 1997 Cherokee Country

I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country. Whenever it rains outside the carpet below the steering wheel gets wet and stays damp for a while. I have had a small hole on the metal on the underside of the car which I had patched and this did not fix the floor leak. I then tried a new windshield because I though there might be a leak somewhere on the windshield that caused water to flood down dampening the floor. Neither things have fixed te floor from getting wet.

Anyone have a similar problem with there cherokee? The passenger side floor does not get wet.

Have you cleaned out the cowl just before the windshield?

Those are known to cause problems, but usually passanger side.

The hole in the floor is most likely not the source of the water.

Default Water Leak

If your vehicle has a sunroof, the drain tubes leading from the sunroof might be clogged or have deteriorated.

Or the weather stripping has rotted.

I have the same problem, and I still haven't looked into it but I'm pretty sure this is where the issue is-

There are several known sources for water entering your truck.

If the rubber bushings on the top cargo rack are rotted they can let water in.

I was having the same problem on my 97 and it turned out to be the cowl was full of leaves and pine straw. I couldn't even see it but felt the vacuum pick it up. Hasn't leaked since.

Of all the people I've see/heard have this issue with the cowl its always been on the passanger side. Interesting that its on the drivers side now.

Can you elaborate on this? Mine has been leaking for awhile and now the floorpan is rusted. I didn't realize it because it was under the rubber mat. Anyway, I've been trying to figure it out. I read somewhere that there's a little shelf or something? Thanks!

Look outside your truck between the back line of the hood and the bottom of your windshield. You'll notice a grate like cover that opens up below to a tray of sorts. This is your cowl vent. On either side there are ports that allow water to drain down, but they tend to get clogged causing water to dam up inside the cowl when it rains. The water has nowhere to go but inside the cabin via small cracks.
