Hello, so my Cherokee has recently had another thing that's weird. So when I put it into reverse its fine. But when I go to from Reverse to Drive there's a loud clink and the vehicle shutters. If I stop in neutral for a second there is no clunk and it goes into Drive smooth. If I go from drive straight to reverse there is no clunk. Is this normal? 98 AW4. 199700 miles.

 

Dont know about 4WD noise but I would check you trans mount and engine mounts.
Mine does that too, Before I put into drive I turn up the radio.......

 

I have a 1999 and the same thing is going on with my jeep, but now it seems as if I I am driving all over the road ,it is hard to stay in side of the lane?? Turn up the radio sounds like a good idea I'll will try it....lol

 

Rear driveline u joints can cause this. Watch the winding of the driveline if you have someone else shift the trans while you watch.
