Default Drive Belt

Put the new Drive belt on. Squeals really bad. The faster you go goes away. Though not fully a way all the time. Loudest at slower/idle speeds.

If I wet it it goes away completely. What I don't get is that I have this belt almost maxed out on tension. (Power Steering Pump is the manually adjusted tensioner.)

Could the squeal be due to the belt being too tight? Or do I need to adjust it max out?
How far are your guys belt adjusted with the power steering pump adjuster?

I had a similiar problem one time the auto parts store gave me the wrong or it was packaged wrong belt it was a little to long.. I would measure your old belt with your new belt and see if the length is close... also Just curious What brand belt did you get... the one that was to long for me was the cheap valuecraft one...

also it couldn't hurt to max it out...? Does the belt itself feel loose?

The belt feels pretty tight on there.
I did have a Valucraft on there that I cut off and replaced with the Duralast.

The belt that was on there before I put the Valucraft on (which is when I got it) it squealed then as well. But when I put the Valucraft noticed that the power steering pump had a ton of slack to give, so started tightening it. It helped, but not 100%.

It also seems like as the belt warms up a little, the noise is reduced some, but still there and annoying.

Was the old belt damged at all? All your pulleys are good... and everything is lined up.... ? Its hard to do this over the computer ... and mine was maxed out with the value belt.. I got a goodyear belt and it seems fine now after that and was not maxed out... Where is the belt itself making noise or slipping any idea? Sorry I am trying the best I can... btw goos job still runing at 250k+

Anyways, I forgot to check all the pulleys. I'd also think that by wetting the belt it wouldn't be a bad pulley. Though could be out of alignment which seems like it would be impossible to fix?

Could be out of alignment. No real way in fixing that though I'd imagine?
I'll just loosen it up some, see what happens. Tighten it maxed out and see what happens. Find the best spot and just leave it there.

I have this in my notes from my other 90 4.0 the check the harmonic balancer. It seems the rubber in the balancer degraded over time point that the outer ring shifted back and was brushing up against timing chain cover. Throwing everything out of aligment is your org?

Also do you have a belt tensior guage? they are a big help
hope i helped a little bit

I'm going to get a gauge tomorrow. When it starts up it's squeals good but after it warms up it stops.
