Default Dripless in MSP, Gaskets and Seals, 2001 XJ

Background: My 2001 Stock XJ dripped some oil on my sons driveway last month and he gave me a (hard time) about like sons can do so I decided to fix it. Luckily I found this forum back in 08 to guide me thru the process.

Top to Bottom:

1. Valve cover gasket

a. Pretty basic fix, good one to start with.

2. Oil filter adapter gasket

a. Got to buy a couple new tools for that one. Sweet

3. Rear main oil seal and oil pan gasket

a. Never in my life would I have expected that I could stay underneath something that long and not fall in love with it.

b. Couple things I could not find in the forum that might be helpful to the next brave soul that tackles this project.

1. The anaerobic gasket maker.
a. Mopar 4318083
b. Locktie 518
c. Permatex 51817

2. Oil pan clearance from front axle. Stock XJ no lift.

a. Do not support the XJ on jackstands from the front axle, that does little to improve clearance between the engine and front axle.

b. After you have supported the XJ on jackstands from the frame and the front axle miraculously drops down away from the motor and you still do not have enough clearance to remove the oil pan get your floor jack and put it under the transmission and lift it an inch and that should give you adequate clearance to remove the pan. (Sweet)

3. Rear oil seal.

a. I used Mopar for the seal and pan gasket. The lower half oil seal had ears on it that needed to be surgically removed when I discovered my old one didn't have them. Anybody know when they changed the bearing cap? I also could not find where to put the gasket maker on the bearing cap flange with this new style. If somebody could post that if they know. I guessed and put it everywhere.

4. Neck brace.

a. I got mine from a local hospital supply.
