When I hit the switch to lock the doors the front pass. door does not lock on the first hit. It takes a bunch of hits of the switch to get it to lock. The pass. window only goes down from the drivers side most of the time. Anybody have any idea what this could be?

First place I would check is the front door harnesses that run inside the boots, between the body and the door. The wires will break in this area because they flex when the door is opened and closed.
Ok dude, i had this problem, and i fixed it last weekend.
I took off the door panel, then the control panel. I sprayed this contact spray that i have. Its like Wd-40, but anything that its sprayed on, it makes a better contact. Ask for it at like napa or something. I sprayed all the connectors down. I also took the control panel, opened it slightly, and blasted everything in there!
The window on the passanger side now works perfectly.
As for the door locks, i was unable to fix it, becuase its a mechnaical problem.
Does yours make the "Wrrrrrrrr" sound when you try to lock it? If so, you're just like me, and the door lock is phyically broken. I'm trying to find the motor to replace it.
So, try out the spray stuff, and the window motor should work.
Good luck!

I had power window and power door lock issues with my 2000 xj and just finished working on them today.
My left rear power door lock could not be locked/unlocked from driver side nor passenger side. Fixed it by replacing a left rear door latch (includes electrical mechanism).
For the window issue, only up/down window controls on driver side door panel worked. Window control on each of the passenger door panels did not work at all. The problem was a faulty power window lockout switch on the driver side door panel. The switch was open, so it was in permanent lockout condition. I bypassed the switch by shorting pins 1 and 2 on connector C307 located in driver side kick-panel with a paper clip. All window up/down controls work fine now.

Ive never ordered from these guys but had them bookmarked. The door lock actuator is about half way down the page. Let us know how it worked out.

I did a quick check on my '95 Cherokee, and noticed that it doesn't have the "el cheapo" plastic POS regulator gears. It actually has a stamped metal assembly, instead.
(It's still a weak point, though; my motor is gradually going out, and I know I'll be out some $$$ to fix it.)
It makes me wonder, whether you could retrofit the 97 and newer models of Cherokee with the earlier, more robust motor/regulators.
