All the doors except my driver side door on my 2001 XJ are tight and work perfectly. It has some play in the hinge...or something.
Just looking to know if there's an adjustment or anything like that.

On my second XJ. I've had to weld the drivers side door back up on both. Not sure bout what you mean by play. but open it and look for bends or rust and tears at the hinges.

Pictures showing what you are talking about would go a long way also.

 

Also there is a post on here about a oem repair or fix bracket from the dealer

 

I just did the hinge pin replacement for mine. There are bushings in there that wear out.

Do a search and you'll find a write up. I used a dremel tool to cut the old ones out. There's a plastic sleeve to cut, then the pins. Then use a cold chisel to drive the 2 halves out. Clean things up, grease all the pieces and put it back together.

 

Awesome! I'd been wondering how to fix this since it bothers me quite a bit. I might have to look into doing that tonight!

 

Don't want to put the dampers on the previous reply, but here's my experience.

Driver door slightly sagging. Sometimes wouldn't lock. Sometimes difficult to open. Definitely play in the hinge.

So I managed to get the old pins out and put a new one in. there where no bushings or anything. This is just a pin in a bracket. Guess what, new pins didn't make a blind bit of difference. Same play,same issues closing opening the doors. So in my case it was really the brackets that were worn, not the pin.

Brackets are welded, not much I can do. I managed to adjust the locking mechanism and the door catch. Everything works fine, but the door still has the same amount of play.

the brass bushings are a Chrysler thing. Had a dodge van that way.

 

I have a 99 Cherokee with the same drivers door sag issue. Replaced pin and bushings and didn't fix it. What seems to be the issue is the hinge hole is worn. I called local dealer and all they have is replacement hinge which requires welding it on. What I am thinking of doing is drilling out hole in hinge to next size up and dropping in a grade 8 bolt with a lock nut. Anyone have any thoughts what else to do?

 

I have a 98 xj, my door was sagging badly as well, I used this kit and it is like new.

Yea, my door creeks and pops like crazy. I hate it because the rest of the doors open and shut very quietly. I wish I could fix it but I will just live with it. I feel like uncle buck every time I open and close my door.
