Thats my oil pan.

So now what engine can I put into this? any jeep 90+ 4.0, or do I need one with the same exhaust manifold? its a 96 if that really matters.

I'm pretty sure I can use TJ/ZJ/WJ and XJ engines, right?

255,342 miles and she died with no warnings or issues threw its life other than all the oil it let threw the valve cover. First thing to die other than my fuel sending unit and a oil sending unit

Yes you can use an older one but may have to swap out a sensor or two and if it's out of anything other than what you got, accessory brackets as well. Just did a 96 XJ motor into a 93 ZJ a couple months ago and it was pretty easy. I even used the header from the 96 because it actually wasn't cracked.

it defiantly threw its life.

Federal law mandates when replacing an engine it must be of the same year or newer

Depends on where you live as to whether they check those kinds of things. That law usually refers to swapping in a different type of motor like I6 to V8.

yes you can but you do have to replace most of your sensor and your throttle body it not hard but i suggest you take out motor and tranmission together

i actually found a guy selling a 96 engine and an AW4 together.

Gonna pick it up after work if I can get someone to lend me a pick up...

It was really strange the way it happened. after I get my new engine in I will pull it apart to sort for the recycling center and to see how bad the block is.

Could I pull the engine and transmission without taking out the rad and front clip? It looks possible, but very tight.

Thanks
