Default does anybody know for sure???

Does anybody know if a chain from a 231 t-case is the same as a chain from a 242 case? Please don't post unless you know, theres a lot of folks out there pretending to be a wrench head and they chime in ALL THE TIME!
I really just need to knw if they are interchangeable Mine keeps stretching due to low fluid levels but I cannot keep the levels up due to a bad seal between the yoke and the output... it isnt the seal its the yoke that has worn down too much and I can't find a decent one at a JY and the dealer wants 137.00 for a new one!

Well they have different part#s at Omix-ada 242 is OAI18612.05 and the 231 is OAI18612.01, so I would say they are different.

At the prices you are seeing, it almost would make more sence to just do a SYE and be ready when you lift. Would also seem that getting a complete TC at the JY would make more sence then replacing chains over and over, even fixing your shaft would make more sence. You could save money on chains by fixing it right the first time, or at least checking the level of the fluid more often.

I run lucas auto trans conditioner in my t-case cause of leaks, it doesn't hurt anything. Its been in there for some time and it got rid of all the weird noises.

MUCH appreciated THIS is what I was looking for... for the post prior to this guys... I AM already lifted and I dont buy chains at dealer cause THEY wanted 187 for it AZ chains were 80 bucks and I tried all parts houses and thats the cheapest anyone could provide. I PLAN on repairing the issue with the DS however the initial issue at hand is that my chain is stretched so much that in 4X4 when under high torque the chain will skip teeth on the front DS sprocket in the case. and as far as the dealer price on the yoke I JUST didnt think of advance adapters so Thank you for that input I will be looking into that... BTW I HAVE a 242 but at the JY all I ever see is 231's thats why I asked.
thanks to those who helped!

FYI the 242 is much more common in ZJs than XJ. Input spline counts are sometimes diferent but the rest of the internals are the same.
