Cool

guage 8 is the standard for most cars and light trucks.......If you want to improve current flow to the starter and overall usefulness ....use gauge 6.(smaller the number larger the wire.)

Contrary to popular thinking, all wires of the same size are NOT created equal. As Willys55 correctly points out, normal battery wire is AWG 8, and AWG 6 is bigger, and MAY be better suited to carry current at low voltage. Not to get overly technical, here's the deal (condensed version)
Current flows on the surface of each strand in the cable. It does not flow in the wire. Therefore, wire having more thin strands in it are much better suited for carrying current, than wire of the same size (AWG) with heavier strands. Go ahead and upgrade, but don't try using machine tool wire for use on your vehicle. You won't gain squat! That's why those dollar two ninety eight jumper cables aren't worth having, and generally don't jump successfully, whereas the better quality ones made of soft, many stranded wire (like welding cable) work every time. Ya get what ya pay for.

From the battery to the starter you should use a 2 gage wire. That is standard battery cable size at the auto parts stores
