my first real build is going to b taking evrything out of a 77 dodge with a 318 and dana 60s and stuff it in a xj i got a 318 motor a 727 tranny and dana 60s im not sure wat transfer case it is but i will up date that as soon as i know. but im gonna shorten the axles and make them fit once i get around to getting all the parts that are almost 1000 miles away haha. but there all free so its worth it and i want to do a different build. does anybody know how much of a pain it will be to put the 318 in a 92 xj. any input will be greatly apreciated thanks. i wold like to talk to somebody that has done this so if you have let me know

That's a good idea, and you don't have to cut the axles down. You don't have to worry about the tires sticking out past the fenders in S.C. I don't think.
I mean legally it shouldn't be a problem.
We should catch up some time, I live in Clover too.

That Power Wagon might just have a D-70 rear along with it's D-60 front. I know the 67's came that way.

i think theres aplace called advanced adapters theycould probaly shed some light on the subje ct of the 318 if my 4.0 ever lets go this is the route im going also
A buddy of mine put a 360Magnum out of a dodge truck into a commanche. I think he said he made his own engine mounts but I'm not sure. I'll try to get a list of things he had to do for the swap.

The transfer case is most likily a np205 or a np208, you sure the front axle isn't a d44 , if its a 1/2 ton its a d44 if it's a 3/4 ton it's a d60. Check out commanche club.com a guy in there did a 360 into a mj so his build will be what you need to follow on the motor. The rest will be up to you but I don't really see any real big issues with it. Please keep us posted I'm really interested in this feel free to PM me on your progress 'and any help I can give you I will.

The transfer case might be a np203 bc I have a 78 w150 with a 360, D44, chrysler 9.25, and the np203. If the shifter has hi,hi loc,N,low,low loc it is def. a np203.

In a half ton '77 Power Wagon the t-case will be either an NP 203 {fulltime} or an NP 205 {part time}. I've owned and wheeled a couple of these old Dodges, and I think this is a great swap. The Dana 44 front for the fulltime case has a weird live spindle steering knuckle design with weak wheel bearings .Very prone to breakage. You also don't get locking hubs with it,it's fulltime all the time. I'd use a Dana 44 from a part time setup with your 203 if that's what ya got. That'll give ya the best of both. I did this swap twice and its a simple bolt in. Simple on the Dodge anyway. lol I hope this works out well for you, sounds like a great upgrade.
