So I'm working on fixing the beautiful sound of engine knock, and was told that a c clip had been left off of a wrist pin when it was rebuilt recently.
sounded like a good explanation, picked it up for a good price and got the pistons out.
From what I can see, there isn't a spot for a c clip to go to retain the wrist pin. There is enough lateral movement for the pin to slide out 1/8" past the edge of the piston, but shouldn't be able to do so when connected to the crankshaft.
It's a standard high output 4.0 L 6 cylinder with the 7120 head.
can anyone confirm or debunk the presence of a c clip?
No clips in a 2.5l or the 4.0l engines. The wrist pin is a press fit into the end of the con rod and can float side-to-side.
Here's a video of one being installed. It takes a bit of skill to get it hot enough without overheating and ruining the con rod.
