Mine is stuck and I want to replace it if possible with something new. Does anyone make a new mechanism for the rear hatch? I'm familiar with the threads to fix the existing parts, but I'd like to change with something new or improved version.
They do, I know Crown makes one you can get from Quadratech, but to be honest, they are flimsy and not worth it. Better off finding an OEM off of a salvage vehicle. I have done both and have the aftermarket sitting in a box as an emergency spare, but it felt like it would break in pieces if I actually used it.
But the reviews make me wonder if it is a real Mopar part.
I thiiiink the second one. I've been stalling to take it apart and see as I'm not really sure how to. Guess I'll figure that out today. The handle isn't catching on something and I'm pretty sure that is a common issue, but I do not know how to pry open the hatch to get to any of it. For a long time you had to bump it as you opened it, but now that no longer works. I have no idea how to open it to get to the mechanism. Going reread that thread on here and see if that helps, but I don't think it has any advice on how to open the rear if it's stuck.

You can open it from the inside assuming it is the rod on the handle just not pulling on it to release it from the latch.
The catch is you have to crawl back from inside and release enough of the hatch plastic to stick your hand down in there.
This is where you could crack the something on the hatch plastic.
20 year old brittle plastic and all.

Yeah...and he should go get himself a box of christmas tree fasteners before hand too... old plastic and at least one or two of those always breaks no matter how careful you are.
Has anyone lately had any luck finding an aftermarket liftgate handle that isn't made of actual garbage? Installed a brand new one today and that plastic piece broke immediately, actually immediately, the first time I opened the lift.
