Default Do I need a new headliner board?

I was wondering if I would be able to re-cover my headliner board. I still need to brush the brown stuff off, but all the fabric has been removed. There are some cuts and gouges in it from the PO. Have any of you re-covered one that looked like this without it looking super bumpy afterward?

The board should be ok. Remove it from the vehicle. Clean it off with a hand wire brush. JoAnn fabrics has the gray material and use 2 cans of 3M spray glue the best available. About 70 bucks or less for the whole project.

There are a number of pretty neat threads here on that, sorry, I didn't save any. You can search with Google, add "cherokeeforum" and it should find them.

That looks perfect. My headliner board had a hole cut in it for a sunroof mechanism with little slits on the sides for sunroof drains. It was super thin near the slits so I used fiberglass in an attempt to strengthen the board. It kinda worked, I think. Anyway, I still glued fabric over it and it came out not bad

It only cost me $109 to have a shop do mine in the factory material/color, too cheap do even try to do myself.

Thanks for the input guys. All the threads I found had headliners that did not look gouged up like mine. So I was curious if it was too bad of shape.

You can tell how it will be after you wire brush the loose fabric, foam and glue off.
