Default Do i need alignment pins in leaf springs?

My bud has a xj, his stock leaf springs are shot. He had blocks in there to help em. They cracked the bottom leaves so we took the blocks out and the bottom leaf remains out and put a AAL in.

The dowels are too big for the AAL holes and the driver dowl on leaf pack is missing.

So he just cranked the u
Bolts extra tight and the axle is balanced on dowel pins rather than the leaves. And is drivin afound like that. Very unsafe. It clunks and its a mess.

Do we cht the dowell pins out so te leaves can rest on the axle as they should?

You need the center pins, I've had my front axle shift back 3-4 inches on my YJ when a center pin broke when driving down the road. Go to any off road shop they should have center pins in stock. I've seen people use All Thread in a jam on the trails before .
