Default Distributor pickup coil

I’ve got a 1999 XJ with a 4.0 and have a few camshaft codes, how should I go about testing the pickup coil inside the distributor?

It shut off on me while driving the other day, then cranked but wouldn’t start. Now it starts

check the wires and connector very carefully, they have a tendency to fail

otherwise try a new replacement sensor or a junkyard distributor or cam sensor

Check the FSM or Youtube for cam sensor checking

an oscilliscope will show the fault if you have access to one
