Default Distributor gasket help

I replaced the gasket yesterday but still had a leak after my drive to work this morning. I used the fel-pro 70051 gasket and selant. Pulled teh distributor, cleaned both surfaces, put some selant on the motor and on the gasket, waited 10 min then bolted everything up.

Is there a trick to this or did i miss a step?

Yea, use RTV and allow the correct drying time.

About 2 hours.

Is there supposed to be another hold down clamp that goes over the distributor ears? After tightening there is no rotation but there is still side to side movement.

No there should be no movement. Is the entire distributor moving?

getting side to side movement

It appears that that the distributor is not seating completely and will move back and forth, especially when the motor is running. THere is enough movement that I can not hardly see how the thin gasket can hold.

That is just it, there is no other clamp. Just the distributor and a bold thru the ears. I picked up a generic hold down clamp at lunch and will try to see if it will get it any tighter.

That is the piece that is missing.

I tried to take a pic to show what I have but did not come out good enough to post. I can say that there is no hold down piece like the one you have pictured. On mine, the bolt goes thru the distributor "ears" with no top clamp

The bolt did seem extra long and I have plenty of room for the hold down clamp i bought. I will try it again when I get home.

Dang jeep runs too good to have an oil leak this bad. I can deal with a drip or two but no the silver dollar sized puddle every time I stop.

That is correct. I was trying to see if there was a clamp that goes over the hold down ears on teh distributor because mine did not have one
