Default disabling the trunk latch warning light?

Hello,

I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee and I am in the process of replacing the stock "idiot light" cluster with the cluster with tach and gauges. When I installed the new cluster, there is a trunk latch/door open warning light which will not turn off. Is it possible to remove the bulb in the cluster or to disable the light somehow? It's not an issue with my sensors in the doors, there was never a problem with the other cluster, and the interior lights are unaffected. I don't even believe I HAVE a trunk latch sensor, which might be causing the problem.

Any suggestions??

hanging out with my dash out,
Corey

you should be able to take the light out no problem, I have done similar but not on that particular light.

(I have also stuck black duct tape over irritating idiot lights on an old car that I didn't want to have to mess with taking apart, but that's another story)

Take the cluster out and pull the bulb out of the back.

Had to do the same thing on my Grand Am. Got the full gauge cluster out of a 5spd so it had an upshift light that would come on randomly since I had an automatic.

Since this thread started with the "nuisance" of the start stop system I thought it was about ways to eliminate it.

If Jeep used this to satisfy the CAFE requirements, I think it's a joke.

If other manufacturers used it too then the CAFE people must be buying into it.

I suppose I'll find out in a few years if I need a new starter or battery if I use it.

I do agree that it makes sense when stuck in standstill traffic.

I'll be using the "A" button to turn it off unless I need it.
