i have a 92 Cherokee/w 4 liter, ive owned it for about a year, it runs great and idles smooth, the problem i have been fighting for a year is, when the engine has a heavy load put on it, " like climbing steep hills or fast acceleration from a stop" it will cut out along with the stereo and everything, but then come right back, engine in most cases refires its self, the stereo comes back and doesnt lose any stations. It doesn't have a catalytic converter it was straight piped, its had new cap, rotor, plugs, and wires, i checked the MAP, TPS, and air intake, cleaned the plug on the ECU, and checked for most of the grounds, i really could use some help for more idea's i i just graduated from the diesel technology program and my instructors are even at a loss to what else it could be, im sure that mine isnt the only Cherokee thats had this problem, please any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

its sounds like the ecu is losing power for a split second. you said you cleaned the plug on the ecu. check and make sure it is pushed all the way in. check the battery cables. i had a ground cable that was bad and i experienced the same thing.

well, i think the plug on the ECU is as tight as i dare go, its the style that unbolts instead of just pulls out, as for the ground cable i will try just replacing it this afternoon and see if that helps, thank you!
