I have a 2000 XJ Limited with the NP242 and ABS. This wasn't a police vehicle or a special order, but it does have the towing package.

I don't know this for certain, but I would suspect the later model Limiteds would be more likely to have this combination. People who bought Ltds were getting leather seats, power everything, "upgraded" stereo, etc. In other words, it was marketed toward soccer moms, professional types and mall crawlers who wanted creature comforts and safety for their spawn. These are the people who would be looking for an automatic transmission, and they would be more likely to want all wheel drive (full-time 4WD) and ABS because they've been told these features are safer.

Personally, I like the full-time 4WD, but I could take or leave the ABS. ABS is supposed to kick in if you lock up the wheels, but the stock brakes on this thing are so weak that that rarely happens.
