"and rolling like that its going into 2." Yea slick, you nailed it right off.

"select EITHER 1 or 2 without the trans arbitrarily choosing it for you". Yea cruiser, I WOULD like to have a look at that.

"dumb as a sack of hammers" comes to mind. What can I say? I'm 52 and its my first automatic. Didn't buy it, inherited it. It ,of course goes through all four accelerating. Silent and subtle, but it does. Decelerating you get 3rd flying, or first crawling, (generally).

YES, Crusier, if I could modify it to select 2nd for descending my hill that would be supper.

Great. I don't know how to do it but the solution can be found somewhere. I've read about guys doing it. Something to do with a toggle switch and splicing into the trans wiring.

Yep, started. Dropped the panel, cut and stripped wire. Made a nice little harness with colored shrink wrap. I think I have a NIB switch up in my barn.
Did it while installing a new drive and OS in this computer. WORKS! This the first thing I did with it. (been getting a black screen warning,(save your data!) and needing to press F1 to boot since my trip up). Your file is now on a flash drive, and in the old drive sitting here that still works.....)

Rewire TCU to select a gear on a 4AW automatic. From this thread/post:

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/gett...-29509/index2/

NOT IDIOT PROOF! YOUR JEEP WILL NOT SHIFT INTO FIRST AT SPEED, STOCK
IF YOU DO THIS, IT CAN!!! POTENTIALLY NEARLY LOCKING THE WHEELS, AT 70!!!

After you cut the yellow wire, the end that goes to harness, (Jeep), goes in the middle of the switch. From there it's REALLY hard to get it wrong.
(taping into the purple/white provides the 3rd)

Seems to work. Today of all days they where grading the road. I didn't want to risk damaging the grader.

In the 3rd pic you can see I put the shrink tubing aside while soldering. The black bands are also
shrink tube. Then some small zip ties....

OK, gave her a go. Sweeet! I love it. Defiantly lets you select. Very nice to have 2nd for downhill.

Instead of right of the ashtray, (easy), I'd like the switch in the console just right of the 1-2 shifter position. Descending pretty steep, and really steep, I use the switch quite a bit shifting between 1st and 2nd. Reaching for it is awkward.

Thanks! Was fun...ran out or colored tubing. Got a big bag of black on Ebay cheap, now a small package of colored should last awhile.

If you are getting your breaks hot playing in the mud, are you doing it right?

Yea, making it stay in 1st--or 2nd, might be handy for that??? I'll add how it works out in a few days.

I'd prob put it in 4lo and hold it in 2nd. When I regear it should be a non issue though.
