Question Death wobble and rear end

Ok. Couple of things. I have the noise narrowed down to the pinion gear. But. I don't know my ratio. It's a 95 xj 4.0 with the chrystler 8.25. Second. How do I get rid of this so called deAth wobble. Everything on my steering is tight also my tire pressure is normal. Help please. Keep in mind. I got this xj used with 214k miles.

Have you checked your track bar, control arms? How big are your wheels/rims? Are they balance with your tires on. Have your checked your unit bearing (wheel bearing)? And when you say that your steering is tight, are you talking about the the nut on the tie rod end or the actual play in the joint? At what speed does your 'death' wobble occur?

Look for a small metal plate bolted to the axle diff cover. You should be able to figure out the ratio from that.

When it comes to death wobble. Check all suspension and steering ends and mounts. Look for loosness in steering box, or cracks in unibody by steering box. If all that looks good. Check your wheel bearings. Get a alingment and balance your tires.

Well. It's mostly stock as far as suspention. I have a slight upgrade with the shocks but nothing futher. The bearings felt good when I changed the shocks and the steering beingtight means the steering mechanisims are good. The axle is so covered with rust I'm not sure if the plate is still on it and the death wobble accurs at 35 to 75. Could just be my tires out of balance so not so much concerned with that as I am the rear end. I'm going to change the oil in the differential today and see if that helps. I also gave about a 1/8 of a turn play in the ds till the gear grabs
