Dash Lights Out, Speedometer Has No Response, I Have No Clue
I'm proud to say I'm a first time Jeep owner as of this week. A friend's Dad gave me his 95 Jeep Cherokee Sport ( i know, what an awesome guy!) It didnt start, so all I had to do was fix the distributor.
I brought it to Midas. $350 later that day, I had a car that ran just fine. All my gauges were active and it seemed good as new.
Later that night I go leave my home and as any driver who doesnt have sugar in his brain would do, I put the light on. They came on just fine, but the dash lights were off.
I toggled the dimmer and nothing happened. I banged on the dash. Still, nothing.
I decide to grab a little keychain led and just use that as my dash light for the trip.
As I'm pulling down my road, I realize the speedometer isnt working.
Are these problems related? How can I solve them?
I've read about the speedometers being a problem in most Cherokee sports, but I haven't found enough info on how they're fixed.
Any advice will be great!
Thanks!

Did you at least check for a blown fuse first? The speedometer is a separate issue I think, I would think something is wrong with the gear. Did the speedo work before?

I agree that they are seperate problems...according to my 95 manual check #17 fuse on the inside panel (lower right)...I would look and make sure your speedo cable is secure on the tranny as the 1st step for speedo problem

I tried giving the dash a fair share of love taps, but it was useless. I then gave it what would be the equivalent to a dash board getting a stone cold stunner. I'm gonna check out the wire leading to the tranny and check that fuse out. Thanks guys.
I'll keep you posted on the progress.
