dash light and radio light problems

dash light and radio light problems
hi every one.
my radio display light has stoped working when my head lights are on. it works fine when headlights are off.
it started happening intermittently a while ago but now it has stoped working every time i put the lights on. i have the clock displayed so its a pain now when driving at night if i need to see the time.
also tonight i stoped to get diesel and when i got back in and started up i noticed the dash light that lights up the speedo has just stoped working, i guess that is just a bulb? or could they be related?
i was looking for answers in the forum and seen problems with the number plate light, so i'll check that.

oh its a 1998 2.5 turbo diesel, limited, manual.
