Dash, cluster, and center console lights wont turn on after radio install
After installing a radio the cluster and center console lights wont come on. I didnt think i really messed with too much down there but what could be causing this? has anyone else had this happen to them?

What year? Did you use a plug and play type radio harness or cut and splice the old school way?
There is a dash light wire on the radio harness and if it is connected to the wrong wire or touched ground when the lights were on it could have blown the dash light fuse.

89. cut and spliced
which one is that? actually i installed this radio 2 weeks ago however i wanted to add some speakers plus replace a fuse. i ended up wiring it straight to the battery instead of the wire made for the radio, what color would it be? purple?

Wire you are looking for is orange. Red is constant 12 volt, yellow is switched 12 volt, black is ground. The other 8 wires are speaker wires, 2 wires same color per speaker, I believe speaker wire colors are purple, white, gray & green one has tracer on it other is solid color.

If you search the site I'm sure you will find old threads of me having the same problem. I bought a wiring harness and I could have swore I did it correctly, but I had to move two of the wires around in a certain order or something.
My radio would work, but then as soon as I turned my lights on it would shut off... But after I switched some of the wires I got it to work with the lights and every thing but I lost my light dimmer function
I think the colors like mentioned before that you have to fool around with are the orange red and yellow. The constant 12v one you can throw out of the equation but the others I don't remember. Hope this kind of helps.

I don't recall seeing that wire when I was in there. But that was two years ago. And to be honest I really don't think it's worth it for me to dig into it and deal with the headache again if I mess it up.
But for the OP here is a picture with the wires I was dealing with and had the lighting problems. The other ones are just for speakers and ground
And before some one tries to troll me those were temporary plugs on those. they are set up with terminals and heat tubing.

look it up....http://www.the12volt.com/
I copied the radio wiring color codes for my Jeep from there.
When I pulled my radio today, all I found was a bunch of cut wires,
from the PO...

You blew a fuse. Its probably all hooked up right its just you blew a fuse in the process of hooking it up. I went through two hooking mine up. Check the ones right under the dash on the drivers side. pull them out and check them and see if there good or not but remember which one came from where. Do one by one. And if its not a fuse Check wiring. But im sure its just a fuse. When mine blew out i had no radio or lights. or it was just lights. it was a mess and a blown fuse can cause all that lol hope that helps
I found my dash wire it was the white and orange one, BUT what do I connect it to, I can't connect it straight to the power because I can't control it from the light ****!!! Anyone please help me everything else is fine
If you are installing an aftermarket radio the orange with white tracer wire to illuminate the factory radio is not used. Do not hook up anything to it as you will blow the dash light fuse. Put a piece of heat shrink tubing on it allowing it to hang off the wire about 1/2 inch to prevent it from grounding.
