Default Dana 44 question.

Hey,

Does anyone know off the top of their head if a Dana 44 out of a 1976 Chevy Blazer will fit in an XJ? I know i'll have to make the spring/steering/etc. brackets. Just wondering as far as the length, and the dif. goes if it would fit?

Anything will fit with some work.

But no that's a different bolt pattern and would require welding to get it in there.

You would also have to change transfer cases to a right hand case. The differential is on the wrong side.

hmm, ok well, I have a welder and all that good stuff. Just wondering because I have the opportunity to pick a set (front and rear) of 44's up for cheap. Just depends on how much money I would have to put into it to get it ready. Do you guys think it would be worth it?

not that 44

you can get a pair of waggy 44's for $150-$300 all day long, and they are a much more straight forward swap.

factor in the cost of:

brackets
gears
lockers
carriers
install kits
alloy shafts (if you desire)
good u joints (if you desire)
new brakes (cheap anyway)
lockout hubs
ball joints (depending on condition)
wheel bearings (again, depending on condition)

yeah, I could get them for $200 for both front and rear, they have brakes on them, and warn locking hubs. Just having a hard time finding any waggy danas around me. But I guess that may be the better way to go...
