I'm new to working with gears and locker. I have a 1998 xj with Dana 30 front. My question is.....if I put in a lunchbox locker in my 3.55 carrier when I regear latter on will it work in the 3.73 and up carrier?

Easy answer is to check with the manufacturer.

 

Internals remain the same including lunchbox lockers. Carrier break changes where the ring gesr mounts between A and B while C is your carrier width which remains the same. Higher numerical gears (4.10, 4.55) have smaller pinions requiring the ring gear to be closer.

 

Mine did. I have the same locker and put 4.56 gears but had to buy the new carrier. Works just fine, although some say you shouldn't have a lunchbox locker up front unless it's selectable?
