is this a dana 3.73 up carrier?

Default is this a dana 3.73 up carrier?

i bought this off of ebay and they told me it came out of a wrangler TJ with 3.73 gears on it. is this an actual dana part and is it really for 3.73 up gears? i cant find any carrier markings online to compare it to. thanks

The break point for gear ratios on the Dana 30, 35, and 44 is 3.90 so if it had 3.73s on it the max you can go is 3.90. If you want to go to 4.10 or 4.56 then you will need a different carrier.

D30 Carrier break 3.55 down - 3.73 up


D35 Carrier break 3.31 down - 3.55 up


D44 Carrier break 3.73 down - 3.92 up



Taylor ... there is no way to tell what carrier by those pictures. Measure the height from the table to the face where the ring gear bolts. I should be able to find you information based on that. Assuming the seller was telling the truth about the gears on it ... then it would be suitable for 3.73, 4.11, 4.56, or 4.88

endlessmtnfab, i must have found this right before you posted! the only place i could find dimensions is from http://www.the-jeep-guy.com/axle_&_differential.htm it says 1.810" for 3.54 and down and 1.943" for 3.73 and up. it does not tell where to measure this from but the only thing that should change is ring gear posision from the end. see image below for how i measured. mine measures 1.950" so im pretty sure it really is for the 3.73 and up. can anybody confirm this? thanks!
