dakota/s10 lift springs modified for XJ?

hey and i looked up leaf packs on car-parts.com to see whats around and it asks 3 leaf or 4 leaf on a 92... so that tells me why some people get 4in of lift and some get 2 in of lift.... oh and folks dont forget the oldsmobile bravada... same as a s10 blazer... has the springs your looking for also... i think im going to take a measuring tape to the junk yard and measure all the vehicles leaf packs and see what else can be used... i want something different... lol

yeah but thats not what im taking about...lol theres plenty of write ups on doing this... this ones alittle different but i guess nobodies done it or knows anything about trying it so maybe ill have to be the first... but $200 for some leaf packs is alot and i dont think i want that much lift anyways... lol

the best pack i have found for the xj are the packs from a dodge van 2500 fron the 80's to late 90's they have the correct front bushing to center hole measurement and the rear is about 1.5 inches longer. they have a much higher weight capacity. if anybody wants to see i have a build going on another site that showes the whole build. click here

so far they work way better then the 3.5 procomp pack did plus my shackle angle is good again. so it was a good 40 dollar mod.

Hey fellas I have a Dakota bastard pack...let me help you guys out a little with your decisions.
1. Go to NAXJA and look up $11 Bastard pack.

Get your leafs from whatever donor vehicle you choose, make sure it is an under axle leaf system as the XJs are over axle hence that's where the lift comes from. I got my leaf packs from a 95 Dodge Dakota it had four wheel drive but i dont think that really matters. IMHO this type of lift is good and bad...cheap, I got my packs for $40 bucks, but they are really stiff aka not much flex. If you dont care about a lot of good flex then bolt away.

Anyhow, I wire wheeled them all down and painted them up with tractor paint so they wouldnt squeek like crazy. Then i lined up the center pins and measured the distance to the front eyelet of the XJ main and then the rear. I cut mine about an inch shy of the eyelet so that the extra DAK leafs would carry the load more than the weak XJ main. When ready, take your packs apart, slap in the new leafs, u-bolt it up and you are ready to rock.

I used all of the dakota leafs and only the XJ main. I got 5.75" of lift in the rear and its really stiff. It does great on the trail too. You will need to get new longer u-bolts, longer rear brake lines, sway links, shocks, etc.

guys if on ur truck it was under axle leaf couldnt u just make it above axle leaf to get a lift?

that is great but the dodge van 2500 are the correct eye to eye and eye to center. and they are not as stiff. next time look for the van springs i built mine for 40 bucks as well i got 4.50 and could do more but i get awesome flex and the ride is not super stiff.

yeah uh... thanks man but i think we already noted several times in this thread that theres a million and one write ups on this... if you read the whole thread you will see what were really talking about... but i am thinking of going this rout for now... or the van rout cause i havent seen that yet and thats what i was planning on doing was just walking around measuring...

yep... called the over axle conversion... but XJ's dont have that problem... wrangler do... but actually spring unders are going to be longer and have more of a arch to them then leaf overs... maybe thats a good thing to look into trying? more arch means more lift on a already axle over maybe huh?

Yea i decided to take out one of the leafs and then do a shackle to make up the diff so i can get better flex. I would imagine the leafs are the same/close...my leafs were dead on for the front eye to center. but alas i ad to cut it cause i was using the stock XJ main.
