Question Curious overheating problem

My parents 1988 cherokee has some weird problem that I can't figure out. This is my first time posting here, so help me out if I'm doing it wrong.
The problem: driving over a mountain with a heavy load, and the bottom radiator hose burst, coolant drained, jeep overheats. Replaced the hose, now it builds intense pressure in the top hose leading from the radiator. Though maybe the radiator was plugged up , flushed it out, that didn't change anything, so I put a new radiator in. Before the new radiator, it would idle at normal temperatures and overheat while driving. Now it overheats at idle and drives fine. I've checked the thermostat as well, nothing wrong there. Had a mechanic look at it, he thought that the head gasket was fine, but couldn't figure out anything other than that. What's going on with this jeep?!

did he do any kind of test for a blown head gasket, like one of those hyrocarbon dye tests? sounds like exhaust gas is now pressurizing your cooling system. i could be wrong. overheating can damage a headgasket or warp a cylinder head.

That's what it seems like to me, but he did some test for a head gasket and said it wasn't that, I don't know what the test was though

I would try a block test kit.

Not sure of the best way to use that on a renix though...
