cruise control and window washer
Hi,
So I recently bought a 2000 2D Jeep Cherokee Sport and it is great! Im having a few problems with it though. I bought it used off craigslist and the cruise control and wind shield sprayers do not work. Are this linked?, Can they be as simple as a fuse? The Cruise control light dosent even turn on.
Sense I bought it I have done alot of routine maintenance on it. I flushed the coolant, changed the oil, greased the drive shaft and suspension. I am going to change the gear oil, and i am also thinking about changing the transmission fluid, what are your opinions on this?
The last small problem is my front speakers dont work, i am considering getting a new head unit and checking the wiring, How hard is it to access the head unit in cherokees?
Thanks for any advice you give me!

I really doubt the washer pump and the cruise control are related.
My washer pumps were both dead - I had power to the plug but the pump wouldnt turn. Replaced both of them and no issues since (well, after I eliminated the crappy t-taps I used).
As far as scheduled maintenance goes - you should do all of it. Diff oil, Transfer case fluid, Trans fluid, thorough coolant flush, grease suspension, replace worn components, overhaul cooling system if needed, etc.
Head unit is easy - there are a lot of videos on Youtube that I watched and it made it easy. If the wiring is shot, I would honestly just run new wires. I ended up only wiring in front speakers because the back ones point pretty much at the floor/back of the rear bench seat and I opted to buy nicer front speakers instead of having 4 crappy speakers.

The head unit is very easy to remove. If you reach up under the bottom of the center bezel and pull, it will pop right off. Then there are a couple of bolts holding the head unit in. There's enough slack on the wiring harness to pull it right out of the dash to remove the connectors. It's about a five minute job.
Unfortunately the head unit is the stupid 1.5 DIN size. There are virtually no aftermarket replacements available in that size. A 2 DIN unit will not fit without cutting into your A/C ducts and your bezel, so you're pretty much stuck with a single DIN unit that leaves a gap under the head unit. You can get a that mounts in there to give you a pocket where the extra space would be.
Also the stock system is set up for 2 ohm speakers. Most of what's on the market now is expecting 4 ohm speakers. As you consider what you're going to replace, you will probably want to make sure that you don't build an impedance mismatch into your system. That means if you have to replace your door speakers and end up going with 4 ohms, you'll probably end up wanting to replace the rear speakers as well.
Crutchfield is your friend when planning your system, even if you don't end up buying from them. If you do buy from them, you get an installation kit that will allow you to patch into the existing wiring harness without having to cut anything.
