i have a 96 xj and for some reason the cruise control just stopped working. but when i turn it on the light that says its on still turns on... any ideas?

 

check the vacuum lines running to the cruise motor. Also check to see if the cable came off the throttle body

Mine does the same thing. The light works but not the cruise control. It is the clock spring in the steering wheel that is broke. My cruise quit, then the hazards quit, then the horn quit, then the airbag light came on. I need a clock spring to fix mine.

 

check the vacuum cylinder in the bumper for cracks or open and check lines unplugged or cracked also make sure all lines are free from dust

 

I thought mine was effed up. It was doing the same thing yours is. I think the contacts on the switches are worn because I found out that if I dont press the button in the middle and I press it off center it works.
