Default crank sensor question

I was looking for a new crank sensor on autozones website today and realized there are two different sensors for my model year. One is a regular cps and the other says it has an upgraded obd2 plug with option XCY. I bought my jeep as is non running from a lady at work and they replaced it but i was told that a new sensor could already be no good but i have no idea if they got the right one to begin with. how do i know which one i need? Any ideas

It has the obd2 port to check the check engine light. i think 96 was the first year for that and depending when in the year it built will determine which one. im just not sure.

Well yes 96 was when obd2 was mandated. What year is your jeep?

My jeep is a 96 cherokee with the 4.o. its the only year that had 2 different crank sensors that could have been on it.
