Default Cps question

Hello every one,
I have put a new engine in my 2000 jeep Cherokee, and I converted from distributor to coil and I have it running fine but my cam shaft position sensor is turned where the plug is facing the block and not towards the fire wall like every one says it should. If I turn it to the fire wall it will run rough and send misfire codes. But I have just had it toward the block and it runs perfect no codes and has ran perfect for about a 1,000 miles sense swap and it still runs fine it's just got me thinking. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If it's not broke don't fix it.
