CPS or???
Hi guys, so I just bought my 96 cherokee country. It has new plugs wires cap and rotor. It started dying at stop lights and sputtering severely so i replaced the fuel filter and pump, which helped but did not completely solve the issue. The jeep idled roughly so i cleaned the IAC and TBI. It still will sputter but I have noticed that it only does so when the Jeep is up to operating temp and it does it much worse when the jeep has a heavier load (ie passengers and camping gear). Also it seems to never sputter if I'm at a constant rpm on flat ground but does if I'm going uphill or accelerating. I have researched the CPS and am going to test that, but could it be another issue? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, could be CPS. Common issue. CAM is another one, but less likely.
I would have done CPS first on the list, before doing all those other parts...

Did you actually check the fuel pressure? Changing the pump and filter won't fix a failing pressure regulator unless you changed the whole assembly, not just the pump?
Any codes stored? I'd take a look at the TPS and the O2 sensors too.

I think it is free for you to have your codes checked at an auto parts store. Likewise a fuel pressure tester loan ends up free. Aamco checks codes free as well I think.
I think 96 is the last year with the MAP sensor back on the fire-wall, (not sure there). Always something to check since the tube gets brittle and is so important. Doesent really match your symptoms though..
>> There is a brittle little tube. It comes out of a rubber plug, low on the engine side of the throttle body. It runs back to the firewall, then up to your MAP sensor sort of high up there near center on the firewall. CRUCIAL!! The MAP will tell the ECU to dump fuel with less/no vacuum. Any crack or blockage and you will have issues<<
