I just bought some lights and I wanted to put them there but I don't know how to get the panels off either. Thats why the wires are all ran and the lights are sitting in my back seat

its not just a small panel... its the whole cowl.
i believe you can access the torx holding this on if you take off the front quarter panels. I had mine off a little while ago and I think the torx bolts holding that cowl on were right there.
not exactly sure though. you cant see how its mounted with the hood open?
also why right there and not on the A frame pillar adjacent to the windshield? someone out there makes brackets specific for that which might make the mounting easier. you could make them yourself too.

just pop the windshield wipers off and pop the cowl off after removing the Philips head screws on top of it. but your lights will be cocked sideways so be aware of this before you start

the pillar would be a better place. Only problem is no one makes the pillar mounts anymore. I was going to take my jeep into a shop to get a set built, but they were fairly busy with putting a D44 front and rear on it...ha

i was going to do pillar mount lights but i cant find any bracets sold by anyone and i have no money to buy anything not even scrap steel to build something plus i want to put it out of the crush zone so if i mount it there its less likely to get killed by a branch

They still sell, and make pillar mounts for the wrangler. Save the cowl area, for later use. Like mounting the Cold Air Intake, Under it. Cheaper and looks better than a snorkel. JMO!
