Could my front shaft on The XJ have seized up?

I just took off the DS to do the pinion seal and now it it won't extend at all is about 1/2" short of the u joint to sit flush. I have a spare I was about to put in the rear and the cv extends and compresses freely by hand. Mine won't move at all. The one on left is the one in question . It was fine before I took off. Maybe I'm just tired and some can tell Me I'm making some easy mistake ? If it was seized wouldn't it at least be stuck at the length it was to actually reach the yolk? Thanks

try greasing the zerk fitting, the force should extend the joint.
if that dont work just pull hard on it, try bangin on it, nothin else you can really do; if its seized its seized...

Just a little stuck? Yea, hit the zirk (apply grease to the zirk fitting)(with a grease gun), and/or some PB or something. A lateral blow (sideways) sometimes helps free things like that (or a tie-rod end). Also metal expands with heat, often enough to make something tight loose enough to deal with. Even slowly pouring boiling water can get something pretty hot.

I'm not saying they don't, but I haven't seen a spline seize, like from extreme use. They get lose!

took it off and yeah, its locked up good. Luckily had a spare I threw on while I try to fix this one. Good suggestions thanks

mine does the same thing. grease it up and hit the ears where the u joint sits with hammer and it should free up some. and grease it again.
