Default Is this correct?

Don't quite know how this happened but why is it I can remove the key from the ignition whilst the engine is still running. In fact I can remove the key from any position in the barrel. I take it the button just below the barrel has something to do with it but I can't figure out what it does.

Any help much appreciated on the matter.

It's a 2000 Cherokee sport 2.5 Petrol (Gas) UK version

The switch is wore out, almost every ford I've ever had did the same thing. My 90 Mj also did this.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I can live with that then. I bet a replacement is stupid money and a ***** to fit anyway.

I always liked it cause you can start the jeep and lock it when it's cold

Never gave that a thought.

Genius idea.

Often the simplest ideas are the most obvious.

They don't cost that much, go to AutoZone.

3 out of the 4 XJ's that I have owned had the same problem. I never worried about changing the cylinder and it never gave me a problem with any of them.
