So my cooling system is shot. The owner before me didn't take care of it and left me with the problems. I know theirs a lot of rust in the system(from what my mechanic says), what is included in the whole cooling system and what can i do to fix the problem. i.e replace parts, flush the system.

 

I had the same problem, I replaced the radiator, the hoses, the thermostat and the coolant of course... now it's OK. I know it's expensive, but what can we do?

 

Since the coolant goes into the engine, is there any parts that should be replaced too?Besides the obvious...

 

Don't forget the water pump, rad cap, fan clutch, efan and belt. A neglected cooling system in a cast iron engine will require multiple flushes and don't flush the crap thru the rad or heater core.
