Cooling parts, 99 Cherokee
I have a 99 cherokee, 4.0 IL6. Everything on it is still stock (other then general mantience, belt, filters ect), which is amazing considering I just hit 150k miles this last weekend.
Ok starting to get cooling issues and figured since all my parts were still stock I would just replace everything. What am i needing is a list of recommended parts. I wanting to replace the water pump, radiator, t-stat, t-stat housing, engine fan/clutch, upper and lower radiator hose, both heater core hoses and anything else anyone can think of. Would also like to replace my belt, idler/tension pulley. I am the orignal owner of this vehicle and want to keep it running as long as possible.
And yes I have dug through several posts and people toss out a brand here and there for various parts, most of which dont fit my model. And thank you in advance!

Water pump: any "name brand" (Bosch, Gates, etc.) I like the Bosch 97082 it is good quality and relatively cheap (~$25)
Radiator: if you need extra cooling capacity, otherwise a Spectra-Premium or Vista-Pro OE replacement will do.
T-stat: Stant or Gates SuperStat
T-stat housing: Is there something wrong with yours? If not you can re-use the old one, if you do need to replace it they're all about the same, it's just a piece of cast-aluminum.
Fan Clutch: OE (best option) or Hyden
Radiator and heater hoses: Any "name brand", I used Dayco
Belt: Goodyear Gatorback
Idler: Any "name brand", I used Gates
You might as well replace the Radiator cap, I would recommend Stant or Gates for that
Don't forget a T-Stat housing gasket, I would recommend Fel-Pro

Did Champion finally get their rads to fit right?
I considered a Champion when I did my replacement but at the time everyone that I had heard of who tried said they didn't fit right wan were a pain to install so I went with the CSF 3-row copper/brass instead.
If they finally got them to fit, that is a great price for an all aluminum rad.

Looking at the lower radiator house you suggested and it doesnt mention anything about containing the spring to keep the hose from collasping. Does it contain one and just not say?

Replace the radiator cap if it has one. Not sure if 99's do but it is a simple part that can cause headaches when it fails. It costs $4.99 or somewhere in there...

If you want a spring your options are either to take the one out of your old hose and re-use it if it is in good shape, buy an OEM hose from the dealer (they cost about $50), buy a spring separately (I believe NAPA sells them), or get one of those "universal-fit" hoses and take the spring from it (don't use the hose, those "universal-fit" hoses are junk but since they have thin walls to be flexible they usually have a spring inside you can use).

The spring, or lack of, is a non-issue. Once heat starts to build, so does internal pressure, presuming the cap is good and there are no leaks. A pressurized hose shouldn't collapse.
