pulled off the line and blew it out, it was clear. put the new cap on. i ran it for a while. it sat around 200-210 idling after it warmed up. prior to running it i noticed that the upper radiator hose didnt seem like it had any fluid in it. i ran it with the cap off and topped it off as needed then placed the new cap on. keep in mind that i went from a stock 16lbs cap to a 13lbs cap. what kind of a difference is that going to make? other than boiling point.

If your old cap wasn't functioning, it will help quite a bit. When mine failed, I borrowed a pressure test kit from AZ and tested the old cap. Rated for 16psi, it only held around 5 psi. The new 16psi cap held its pressure just fine. So if your 16 psi cap wasn't holding pressure, even a 13 psi cap will make a world of difference.

Ok only because you mentioned that your upper hose seemed empty do i say this.
When you get a chance take off your oil fill cap, and use a flash light and look down inside the head, for any coolant.
I had this same issue, and turns out it was a cracked head. If the system is under pressure it will pull the water from the resivor and fill the hose/system back to full. With the crack it can't stay under pressure at high temp because the fluid is leak into the head.
I was lucky it was a small leak and never made it to my oil, it burned off in the head
Might be nothing but just something to watch for.

The only difference is 9 degrees lower boiling point. As the motor cools they both work exactly the same with regard to coolant being returned back to the rad.

Instead of arguing, why not find out WHY they stopped putting the springs in.

No, not at all. You jumped on my response. I'm just curious to know what changed on the Cherokee that you don't need the spring anymore. Besides that you say so.

ill take a peek in the head. however im not noticing and power difference in the engine or response issues. nor does the jeep smoke at all. a buddy of mine said that because of how the cooling system is on the cherokee that i have to jack up the driver side as high as i can get it then fill it cus it would push out the air bubble if there was any.

Presuming it's on level ground, u don't need to jack it up. After it's all buttoned up, fill the rad SLOWLY, start motor and let idle with the cap off. Keep the rad full while idling. Once coolant starts to burp/flow out the top of rad, put the new rad cap on, check for leaks and test drive. When the motor is cold, remove rad cap and fill if needed. Check the bottle for proper level of coolant.

Don't know what changed. None of the local parts houses carried a replacement lower hose with a spring in it. Unless the bypass is blocked off, the water pump sucking the bottom hose to the point of collapse should be a non-issue, especially as pressure in the cooling system starts to build, which is quickly, well before the t-stat opens.

If the new cap does not fix your problem, you might consider a bad thermostat. I know you just got it but I had the same thing happen to a f150 I had. The top hose would pinch closed and not get any fluid flowing, I had to put another new thermostat in it, come to find out my AutoZone thermostat wasn't working properly...just my .02.....good luck.

ok so no coolant that i can see in the head nor dos it smell like coolant. after running it last night it still has fluid in the upper hose and i didnt notice any collapsing of the hose after cool down. im thinking the new cap did it. whenever i leave the house today ill find out for sure lol. thermostat is good tho. i know some stats can come bad, but it runs the coolant through when it opens so i know thats good. ill test the truck later. trying not to use it to much cus i have one bolt and a strat holding my passenger motor mount on until i get those brown dog mounts.
