concepts behind dropping Transfer Case, SYE, etc...'99 (max 3" lift)
i can understand that when lifted the angle is changed between the transfer case and the rear axle............don't know, and haven't looked at diagrams about SYE's though........i just got a lame chiltons/haynes manual to start off with........
my technical know how, and mechanic ability are in best estimation intermediate to advanced........large projects such as internal engine work aren't doable related to lack of equipment, the T-case is however, very doable............
any advice for a '99 sport owner, set-ups, considering a MAX 3" lift

dropping the tc reduces the angle of rear ujoints sye allow you to run a cv on rear shaft and allows to run xj with out rear shaft if you need to at slow speed and for a short time

However, lowering the t-case is a simple job. Installing SYE requires busting into the t-case - not exactly what I'd call "simple", but not really difficult either.

Here's a couple pics of what it involves and a couple before and after on my 6.5 lift.
These are with the axles at full droop.
Bad angle
See here the yoke is almost ready to fall out and the u-joint is binding
Here's how far in you gotta go. This is the new adaptor
For now using a front shaft but no more binding at full droop and the vibes are gone.

This is true. Another thing to consider is that you're losing t-case clearance by lowering it (kind've defeats the purpose of the lift imo).

I will never understand why somebody would lift their jeep 3 inches, only to lower it again an inch right in the middle of the truck where it matters the most. This just doesn't make any sense to me at all.
Just do it right by slapping on an SYE/Shaft and be done with it. If money is an issue, there are very affordable ways of doing it. Heck you can purchase a complete sye and shaft kit from ironrockoffroad for like $199 and it comes with everything you need in the box, it will only take you about an hour to install the thing. You can also just purchase the SYE kit for under a hundred bucks and hit a scrap yard for a driveshaft.

there are 2 types of SYEs the one in the photos where you replace the output shaft of the t-case and the other called a hack and tap were you cut the output shaft off and install a drive flange so you can run a front drive shaft in the rear. the second one is nice and easy takes about 1.5 hour to do start to finish. and is genurally cheaper

Lowering the TC increases your chances of high-topping on it - not good.
I recommend the "full" SYE kit. Stronger, and less chance of DS wobble. With the hack'n'tap, you've got to make sure you cut the shaft PERFECTLY perpendicular, and tap it PERFECTLY in the center and parallel.

the hardest part of the hack and tap is tappng and threading the shaft but with the hack and tap you get the drive shaft with the yoke and all hardware
