awesome fix
Just finished removal of adapter. Had no trouble removing adapter since i am in the middle of complete overhaul of suspension. Used a 3/8" end cap, 3/8 t60, and 14mm ratcheting wrench. Popped the roll pin out with a pair of side cutters, while using block a leverage point. I went with the new fram filter, and had no apparent leaks. thanks for the post.

Excellent, you are most welcome.

On roll pin something that can dent it like my bolt cutter or your sidecutters seems to be the ticket, visegrips did not work for me.

Cheers

I attempted to do mine yesterday. Mine is a 1990 Limited.

1st issue - My bolt holding my adapter on was not a torx or a hex, it was a 5/8 bolt

2nd issue - When I bought the suggested filter, it did not fit onto the threads (which was fine because I could not get the male to male taken off)

3rd issue - actually a 2 parter - A. Hex on male to male was not 1"
B. No deep well socket could reach (I have some
seriously deep well sockets too)

There are the issues I had, I ended up just taking the O ring off of the filter I just bought ($1.99 with the special) and placing it there the O ring should have been in the adapter to the block.

Pretty good so far (no leaking), but still loosing oil pressure the longer I drive, and not normal pressure drop, like from 60 down to 20 at stops, then back up to 40 when I drive.

Purolator produces a much better filter than Fram, for less.

DJ,

That is interesting, sounds like your 90 is a quite a different setup. On depth of socket not sure whether that is for the block or adaptor.

If anyone else has your setup please post about it.

Maybe somone did a modification of it before. In terms of hex bolt you seem to have, think have heard of that, but internal threads being diffrent have not.

I could have been just the filter I bought.

The socket depth was attempting to remove the male to male adapter from the oil adapter.

DJ,

Ah, now know you mean internal depth on socket. I may have used open end or closed wrench on the double male. Do remember putting adaptor in vise to resist the torque.

cant wait... I watched a guy break off his oil pressure sensor once due to the ackward location from the factory

How about a remount filter mount adapter?
I'd like to get the filter somewhere where its easier and cleaner to change.

my bolt was striped and rounded (torx), used a monkey wrench.
