Default cluster swap but some questions haven't been asked

I looked all over these forums and couldn't find specific answers to the questions I have. I see that you need to buy oil pressure senders and water temp senders. That there is a blue color on the back and that means something and that sometimes you may have a loose ground so make sure the screws on the back are cleaned and retightened.

I have a 96 and I do not know what year the cluster I bought came from. It was from a few years ago and the seller didn't tell me what year it was from. I had to pull my cluster because my plug for the HI to LO selector on the a/c and heater had burned up. I moved the wires to behind the cluster, there was so much more room to work. I swapped the cluster and got fuel and battery and tach but did not drive it. Oil wouldn't even register, neither would water temp. When I drove it the speedo wouldn't register but the odometer and trip worked. I read that you could turn the key to run but dont start and hold down the trip and then release. Also read that you can switch faces from cluster to cluster. So confusing.

All I want to know is if I buy a new oil temp and water temp sender, they will be specific to my year '96 right? Remember I DO NOT KNOW the year of the cluster I put in so if I need to get sendors for it, I guess I am screwed, unless there is a way of knowing what year its from based on the info on the back? If I check for a bad ground on the cluster by removing the screws and cleaning them, then my speedo will work?

Did your original cluster have gauges or just idiot lights?

The cluster test (turn on the key and hold the trip) only works on 97+ clusters. You will have to change the sending units to the gauge versions, the ones for your 96 should be fine they were the same sensor for nearly the entire life of the 4.0l

Do you have a picture of the back of the "new" cluster?
