Here's to hoping it only needs a good cleaning and fresh juice.

Gears worked fine while jacked up. Fluid and gear were black, but didnt find any metal chunks or slivers. There were plenty on the magnet (looked like silver paint). Gave it a good cleaning and gears arent black anymore. Just waiting for the RTV to cure over night before filling it up with Royal Purple.

It's longer.and more prone to problems.
If this stops it, verify by replacing the main front axle driveshaft to make sure.

Still clunking?

Step 3.
Pull the drivers side axle shaft.
Still clunking?
If you do this: you need to remove the axle shaft, remove the U-Joint, replace the stub shaft on the hub/unit bearing, and re-torque the nut to spec.

Otherwise you run the risk of having your wheel part ways with your vehicle...

I understand and support not working beyond your comfort zone.

On the other hand, it is a fairly easy job to do. I did it for the first time last summer. And there are some jobs, this included, that I would not trust someone else to do.

Time to open the front pumpkin? Look/clean inside. Should be easy, if not dirty. And even if it isn't the issue, won't hurt to eliminate by inspection and change the fluid.

Could've leaked all the fluid out a side seal and you didn't know. Might be running dry, eating all those nice little moving parts in there.

Think I'd Crack the pumpkin before going after the suspension parts. Costs only rtv tube and fluid... ball joints cost more. In parts and time.

I did already. The fluid was black and so were the gears. I cleaned them and didnt see any more than the silver paint like metal on the magnet. I even filled it with Royal Purple. I didnt hear or notice anything too unusual when it was open. Spun the wheels while it was jacked up and nothing weird seemed to be going on.... But thats the problem. It comes and goes. So i might have been a good day when i did it.
