clunking sound :P
oh yeah sorry I forgot you guys can't read minds! haha yeah only when I'm rolling so in gear and out of gear. its not an engine knock, and it sounds like its coming from the driver side. it gets worse at higher speeds

Usually bad hubs are more of a growl/grind noise that increases with speed.
U joints do usually create a clunk or clack kind of noise...most noticeable when turning.
If youre checking hub bearings lift up the front, grab the tire and try to push/pull it use two hands and do it with some force...usually hand placement is 9 and 3 or 12 and 6...if the tire jiggles....chances are its a bad hub.
You can also take the tires off (if no jiggle is found with tires on) and spin the hubs around by hand feeling and listening for grinding....then recheck for jiggle....that is also another good indicator of it being bad.
U joints are easy to check, grab the ears that hold the joint in place (one hand on each shaft) and twist in opposite directions back and fourth multiple times, dont be afraid to use a good amount of force on these puppies either, if you feel or see movement, replace them, they shouldnt have any play. The same goes for checking driveshaft u joints...one hand on the ds and one on the yoke...
