I have a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4x4 and when I am driving or going over bumps I get a clunking sound in the rear of the vehicle. I have lifted it and looked for the sound. When I try to physically move the drive axle on either side of the rear differential I can replicate the sound. How much "play" should there be if any and if none what is the repair/replacement solution?

I'm not sure what a 2015 is, but it is too new to be an xj. Try pulling and pushing the wheels into and away from the vehicle as well as in all directions to figure whether the axle bearings are still in good shape or not. Also, move this thread or start a new one in the appropriate sub-forum.
