Default Clunking rear Differential!

Hope someone can help with this, today my 2000 4.0l XJ Sport started making a binding/clunking noise when pulling away from a junction. I narrowed it down to pulling away while turning ie:going left or right at a junction, not straight across. This leads me to think the rear differential is locked when it shouldn't be.
I am driving in 2WD HIGH, but the last time I drove it I used 4Lo to get up a very steep bank, which it did easily.
I should say this Jeep has 70k miles on it and I don't think the previous 2 owners had used the 4wd much as the lever was really stiff when I got it. Its much looser now that I have used it a bit in the fields.
Is there an easy way to tell if the dif is locked? What do I need to look for in the linkages?
I hope I haven't wrecked the transfer case or differential.
By the way its a Selec-trac (2wd,4wd pt,4wd ft, N, 4Lo

OK so I now know the Jeep doesn't have a diff lock, but probably a LSD.
Anyone know what might be causing this sound when I pull away and turn. Its perfect once driving even round bends just bad when you are pulling away from stopped and turning.

Default Diff Additive??

So I found a shot front UJ and replaced it hoping that is what was causing this noise i get but its as I thought...coming from the rear and only once I have done about 10miles. Sometimes it sounds bad, as though the wheels are about to fall off and then it might be fine at the next junction.
I took off the rear brake drums tonight and blew out all the dust with the air gun but it all looked good in there so now I really don't know where next to look.

Could it be lack of LSD additve in the rear differential? Anyone know what would happen if the diff did not have this put in when last serviced?
