when shifting into drive, there will sometimes be a clunk noise from the rear.
when slowing down and stopping, there will sometimes be a similar clunk when engaging and starting away,

Check the ubolts in the rear suspension, if they are loose or if one is broken it can cause a clunk noise. Also check your driveshaft for a worn out u joint. I don't think it is your transmission, I think it is in the power train.
Mine does it too, i think its just the brakes. Next time you shift into drive, put your foot on the brake softly and the jeep will probably jump forward and start rolling quickly lol.

There's a write up on here somewhere that explains putting anti seize where the rear driveshaft meets the tc. Someone can chime in but it's a 15 minute job and solved my clunking that did the same thing. 4 bolts and ur good to go
